Comfortable and Secluded Montana Lodging

Nestled in the Ruby Valley, Upper Canyon Outfitters offers comfortable accommodations in our Montana lodge or private cabins — a peaceful retreat surrounded by the Snowcrest, Gravelly, and Greenhorn mountain ranges. Located near Alder, Montana (population 109), the drive along the scenic Ruby River Road brings you into a landscape where the noise of everyday life fades and the quiet of Montana’s backcountry takes over. By the time you arrive, you’ll already feel the difference.

Our Lodge

Our welcoming Montana lodge sits at the heart of the ranch, featuring a spacious front porch with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains—perfect for relaxing and taking in the fresh Ruby Valley air. The lodge serves as the central gathering place for guests. Enjoy coffee in the morning, pre-dinner appetizers, or evenings shared with friends and fellow guests. Hearty, family-style meals are served daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with menus featuring locally sourced beef and seasonal produce.

Inside, the lodge includes a cozy living room, dining area, and full kitchen, along with six private guest rooms. Each room offers comfortable beds, a mini-fridge, and private or semi-private bathrooms, providing a relaxing and convenient stay amid the mountains of southwest Montana.

Our Private Cabins

Guests can choose to stay in one of our private Montana cabins, each offering cozy bedrooms, private baths, and some with fully equipped kitchens. WiFi is available throughout the ranch.

CABINS 1, 3 & 4 – Three identical two-bedroom cabins sleeping 5–6 guests. The master bedroom has a queen bed, twin bed, and private tub/shower. The second bedroom has a double bed and either a single or bunk bed combo, plus a sleeper sofa. Each cabin includes a full kitchen and two full baths.
Minimum Stay: 4 guests

CABIN 2 – A studio-style cabin ideal for couples, small families, or friends. Includes a queen bed, bunk bed, futon, full kitchen, and private bath.
Minimum Stay: 2 guests

A-Frame Cabin – Features a main bedroom and bathroom downstairs and a loft upstairs. The loft adds a distinctive touch that makes it a favorite for returning guests — perfect for those seeking a unique Montana cabin experience.
Minimum Stay: 2 guests

CABIN 1B – A cozy two-room cabin with a double bunk in the main room and a single bed in the second room. Includes a full bathroom, coffee maker, and mini-fridge. Ideal for guests who want a quiet hideaway while enjoying lodge meals and social time.
Minimum Stay: 2 guests

All cabins are steps from the lodge, offering a comfortable, private experience while keeping you close to meals, activities, and the rest of the group.

Check In

Check-In at Upper Canyon Outfitters
When you arrive at the ranch, visit the UCO Store next to the lodge to check in to your room or cabin. This is also where you’ll check out at the end of your stay and have the opportunity to pick up any gift items before heading home or continuing your Montana adventure.

Meals – Come and Get It

Each day at UCO begins and ends with a hearty family-style meal in our lodge dining room. Mealtimes are a chance to share stories, connect with fellow guests, and unwind together after a full day on the ranch..

Each meal is a three-course experience, starting with a fresh salad, followed by a generous main entrée, and finishing with a sweet dessert—plenty to satisfy every appetite. Guests with special dietary needs or food allergies can simply let us know at booking so we can accommodate their requests.

Please feel free to bring your favorite alcoholic beverages for cocktail hour and meal time. If you’re a UCO shuttle passenger coming in from the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, just ask your driver to stop by the local liquor store to give you a chance to stock up on all your favorites before you get to the ranch.
