BEAUTIFUL. RUSTIC. UNFORGETTABLE.
Upper Canyon Outfitters is a family-owned and operated ranch in Montana’s wild and beautiful Ruby Valley along the banks of the Ruby River. Surrounded by the ranges of the Snowcrest, Greenhorn, and Gravelly Mountains, our family has been exploring these lands since our grandfather homesteaded here in 1910.
Since 1981, we’ve been proud to welcome guests to our ranch and share the lands we call home. We hope you’ll come and join us for some authentic western hospitality, unforgettable scenery, and comfortable accommodations when you’re planning your fly fishing, hunting, riding or exploring Montana adventure.
Upper Canyon Outfitters continues to adhere to the highest standard of sanitation and cleanliness. We are also paying close attention to any changes the CDC suggests.
We look forward to seeing you soon.

An Ode to the American People
If you have spent much time with Jake McDonald, you may have heard his affectionate reference for himself, “a blue collar piece of trash”. So what does this mean? It means we know what it is to put in a hard day’s work. We know what it is to care for our livestock in the best and worst of weather. It’s callused hands and strained muscles. We believe that it is the American Spirit showing up in the form of blood, sweat and tears.
So today we honor our country and all the hard working people that create the patchwork of us. There is a lot that divides us, but today is a day to focus on what unites us. The belief that hard work matters more than class, gender and color, freedom is our right and resilience runs deep in our blood. Today we remember that we are a seed that was planted by the tired, the poor and the huddled masses and that we have grown to be a people that have an intricate knowledge that our freedoms are inextricably tied to each other. So let’s raise a glass to each other on this greatest of days to celebrate the land of the free and the home of the brave 🇺🇸

Do you remember Charlotte? She was a kitchen assistant here in 2023! After leaving UCO, @_charlotteroach went to school to become a farrier. She came back yesterday to help our horse shoer. It was great to have her back—albeit in a very different capacity!

Here are UCO we pride ourselves in making life long memories, not only for our guest but our staff too. This past week, our staff stepped back into the 1800s to help solve a murder mystery. This was not only a great bonding experience but time to let loose and have fun before the busy summer season begins.
Let the Summer Season Begin!
